How service price & time calculation works

Base price

Base price is a starting point of possible service’s price. It defines the bare minimum of service cost, which is used for other calculations.

Base time

Base time represents a bare minimum of time for artist to accomplish order on this service. Usually, any additional time (from addons etc.) just being added on top of base time.

Addons

Addons are optional extras that artists can offer with their services. A service can have any number of addons, and each addon has one or more options the client can pick.

An addon option has one of 2 price types:

  • Fixed - a set amount added to the price
  • Percentage - that percentage of the base price added to the price

A percentage addon is always calculated from the base price only, never from other addons. Each option can also add days of work.

Example: a Character Design service has an addon for an extra outfit with 2 options: 1 more outfit (10 €, 1 additional day of work) and 2 more outfits (20 €, 2 additional days of work). It also has an animation addon with 2 options: simple animation (25%, 4 additional days of work) and complex animation with VFX (50%, 8 additional days of work).

Commercial use

When creating a service, the artist decides whether their work may be used commercially. If it may, the artist can set an extra price for commercial use, and the client chooses Personal or Commercial use in the request form. With Personal use, there is no extra charge.

Commercial use has the same 2 price types as addons, with one difference:

  • Fixed - a set amount added to the price
  • Percentage - that percentage of the base price plus all selected addons

Commercial rights cover the whole commissioned work, so a percentage is charged on everything the client ordered, not only on the base price. Commercial use does not add days of work.

Total Price & Time

The total price is calculated in this order:

  1. Subtotal = Base Price + fixed addons + (Base Price × percentage addons)
  2. Commercial use = fixed commercial price, or Subtotal × commercial percentage (only if the client chose Commercial use)
  3. Total Price = Subtotal + Commercial use

Total Time = Base Time + days of every selected addon option

Example: the Character Design service has a base price of 60 € and a base time of 10 days, and commercial use costs 100%. A client picks 1 more outfit and simple animation, for commercial use:

  • Subtotal: 60 € + 10 € + (60 € × 25% = 15 €) = 85 €
  • Commercial use: 85 € × 100% = 85 €
  • Total Price: 85 € + 85 € = 170 €
  • Total Time: 10 + 1 + 4 = 15 days

With a fixed commercial price of 30 € instead, the total would be 85 € + 30 € = 115 €.
